 RADICAL LIVING By Abigail Wakefield
When Jesus becomes the paramount relationship of our lives then love will be para-
mount. This is when we learn in practice all the tenets of 1 Corinthians 13: “Love is pa- tient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily an- gered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.”
Jesus gave us the template by His own life as He ‘taber- nacled’ among us. A careful reading of the Gospels will show that He esteemed Him- self a servant to God and to man. He wanted us to realize that all the grasping and claw- ing for the things that make us seem successful in the eyes of the world are farcical in nature. True life, abundant life, is found only in loving others as He has loved us. He loved us enough to die for us while we were yet dead in our sins. What that means is that we weren’t even cognizant of the magnitude of His offering in
the moment. The Bible says that He endured the shame of it by looking beyond the cross to the joy of what lay on the other side of crucifixion. Res- urrection, redemption, recon- nection... He taught us that love chooses to love even when it is not returned.
How many of us have thrown people away because of their inability to reciprocate in the moment? How many of us have become the accuser of our brethren when they have wronged us? Jesus showed us that His kind of love is not based on reciproc- ity at all. His love says, in ef- fect, “This is the way. Walk ye in it.”
Every time we choose His way rather than our own, we are raised up into a place of deeper and higher under- standing. This is one of the ways we are “seated with Him in heavenly places.” And from that vantage point we can see only the great expanse of no limitations.
We are living in a time of great disturbance and turmoil. Many people are fearful of what is to come. From a natu- ral perspective, their fears are justifiable. The whole world

seems in a shambles, and the United States is on the brink of total destruction.
But God. God hears us when we pray. God invites us to partner with Him to bring a resurrection of truth and jus- tice back to this land, if we will turn our hearts from every wickedness back to Himself. Conviction is an action word. Many of us are called into places that can change the government from the inside out. Many of us are called to pray the shift into place. One is not lesser than the other, as long as we are committed to hear and obey. And if we do not lead with love, we will miss the turn altogether.
