RADICAL LIVING
By Abigail Wakefield The goal of Jesus' work
in us is to undo the works of the devil that we have tol- erated. No matter whether we have suffered trauma that opened doors to demonic in- trusion or whether we ac- tively chose sin, the effect is that spiritual darkness is the legal realm of habitation of the enemy. In order to be de- livered and healed, we must first be aware. We must dis- cover the truth that makes us free, and apply that truth to the problem. If the devil is sifting us with God’s permis- sion (and that’s the only way he can) then it is in order that we may see what God sees so that we can exorcise the rift and bring ourselves into right relation with Jesus’ na- ture on the point of conten- tion.
Have you noticed in the Creation story that God did not create the darkness? He never said it was “good.” He created the moon to reflect the light of the sun to give us the ability to “see” in the darkness. Hell is also eter- nally dark, because God’s presence is not there. “God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all.” (1John 1:15).
Matthew 6:22-23 says “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be
ull of darkness. If the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”
That darkness is the bondage that we live in. It may present in each of us in a different manner, but we know it personally as an area of continual defeat. It is the place where we try and try and try and never obtain vic-
ory. The reason is because we do not understand the hook. Jesus allowed satan
permission to sift Peter be- cause Peter wasn’t aware that he was operating in a spirit of pride. Jesus knew His plans for Peter as his dis- ciple and He knew that pride would cause Peter to fall vic- tim to satan’s wiles if it was not excoriated from his being. Pride is the one thing that God Himself actually op- poses, and I don’t think that any of us who love Him want to be the objects of His op- position. Pride causes us to harden ourselves to obe- dience to God, keeping us in
a state of rebellion and de- ception that will kill our rela- tionship with Him.
The point of that state- ment is that God is com- pletely dedicated to revealing truth to us in order that it be revealed in us, be-
cause that is the freedom point. ‘It is for freedom that Christ set us free.” (Gal. 5:1). He set us free legally from the power of sin and death and the grave when He went to the cross and died for us. He will set us free experi- entially as we seek Him in these places that still chal- lenge us.
