In a world that seems to be literally on fire, we have to re- member that the strength of the enemy is only found in the power that we give him. In other words, Satan, the “god of this world,” is fla- grantly flaunting his “accom- plishments” against the people of God. Revelations says his “wrath is great be- cause his time is short.” He
knows that the end of his story will not bode well for him, and therefore his design is to take as many people down with him as possible. He has no other goal. If you are a Christian already, his goal is to make you non- functional for God’s kingdom advancement by any means that you give him. Do you have a besetting sin habit that you can’t kick? He is there in it. Are you overcome
by depression or anger? He is there in it. We make the mistake of thinking that our “civilization” has made us im- mune to the devil’s infiltra- tion, that demonic intrusion is only for the uncivilized tribes of the world who worship trees or snakes or buddhas. Not so. Our objects of wor- ship can be societally ap- plauded - lots of money? Great job? Great reputation for success? Our idolatry
may look different on the sur- face of things, but idolatry is as rampant here in the United States as it is in the bush outback of Australia or in the tree people of the Amazon jungle.
