RADICAL LIVING By Abigail Wakefield
For many of us in Christen- dom, the “good old gospel ship” has crashed and splin- tered on the rocks of stormy seas. Like Paul, we have found ourselves driven by un- toward weather into the new and unknown. While this sea- son is exciting, it also requires a laying down of old para- digms and constructs that no longer serve the mission. Sometimes it requires a leav- ing behind of people and or- ganizational structures that we would never have conceived of before the wind
shifted.
We are called to be dynamic
in our everyday walk it out re- lationship with the Holy Spirit. This means that we cannot rely on old manna. Man only truly lives on every word “that proceeds” from the mouth of God. Daily dependance on the person of the Holy Spirit is vital to our success, and that is not always qualified in quantitative ways. “Church” has become a numbers game for many - a “seeker friendly” business model that calculates success in terms of money and people.
That is not the heart of Christ, and if we accede to this stan- dard we will always fall short of His best.
He desires for us to have “abundant life, to the full and overflowing.” Once we even glimpse this realm [“taste and see that the Lord is good”] we are ruined for more. Nothing in this world compares to the weight of His glory in manifes- tation. He says we should know trees by the fruit that they bear. Dry trees become obvious in short order when standing in contrast to those who are seeking Him with their whole hearts.
What do we do in this sea- son? He never intended for there to be “insiders” and “out- siders” within His family. We have an obligation to those who still stand in any level of darkness to SHINE. It is only the light within each of us that combats the darkness of this
present world, and if that ligh is dim, how sad for all of us... I think the largest realizatio that we all need is to know tha we don’t exist in a vacuum Our actions and our words af- fect the people in our periph
ery, and we may never know on this side of heaven to what degree. So we are instructed to operate in love at all times. If we follow that mandate then we can be assured that we are in His will. Each time we step outside of that command we can expect trouble to arise. People complain that it’s “too hard” to be a Christian, but the reality is that life is hard, and being a Christian is what gives us fortitude to go the distance without losing hope or faith along the journey.
We’ve all been dealt a bad hand at one time or another, but the way we respond to it makes all the difference. If we call ourselves “Christian” then let’s show the world that we know what the title means.
