RADICAL LIVING By Abigail Wakefield
Jesus understands every- thing about you. He knows you better than you know yourself, and He under- stands why you make the choices that you make. He sees the condition of your heart, and He grieves that you do not know your identity in Him. He intercedes for you
before the Father, that God may receive you because He paid the price for your whole- ness. You “have not because you ask not, or because you ask amiss.” You ask not, be- cause you are angry.
God has disappointed you. You blame Him because you didn’t get things the way you wanted them, and your dis- appointment has led you into rebellion. You want to hurt Him, because you perceive that He chose to hurt you. After all He is God. He can do anything, and yet He chose not to answer your prayer in the way you begged Him to.
God works through your choices, and sometimes around them. He does not cause pain and trauma, but you think He should have stopped the pain, stopped the trauma. He is limited to your free will and the free will of others. You cannot con- tinue to kick against the goad and expect Him to bless your rebellion. He “always makes a way out of temptation,” but when you gave in to tempta- tion you allied with evil. You set yourself up on the throne of your heart and said “ I got this myself God. I don’t need You.” You may not have spoken the words, but you said them in your heart and they showed up in your ac- tions. You chose.
Now what do you intend to do? Will you continue to pur- sue your own path while blaming Him for your de- struction? The way therein is
death. He is gracious, and He is kind. He will wait with outstretched arms for your return and you can find re- demption, but you may lose your natural inheritance. The people you hurt along the way who loved you until the hurt caused them to shut down and shut you out for their own survival may be lost to you in this lifetime. That doesn’t mean they won’t continue to pray for you if they know Jesus. They will, because they under- stand your eternal value to God. They know the price He paid to win your heart, and they grieve that you dismiss Him and turn after idols.
Life is only a wisp of air - a vapor. We are here and then we are gone. We can shorten His plans and kill His promises by our own individ- ual choices and we can miss our destiny. We can hurt others with our pain and we can kill relationships when we choose the wide path of destruction. It won’t be be- cause He didn’t love us, but because we didn’t receive Him. And if we say we are His but our lives bear rotten fruit then we are lying to our- selves. It’s time to stop denying responsibility and turn our faces and our lives toward Him and truly commit.
