“Taste and see that the Lord is good.”
How do we “taste” of the goodness of the Lord? Like any other sensory percep- tion, it involves a multiplicity of factors. Sometimes we “see” in order to taste. God does something so large in our individual lives that we could not have even seen it coming. Faced with a situ- ation beyond our control, we whispered “God, I know You alone can fix this.” Or “God, if You are real and You hear me, please fix this.” Whether prayed in faith, in fear, or in between, He is still ready and responsive. We get the breakthrough, and we say “Wow. That was only and ab- solutely God.”
Sometimes we “hear.” We may hear a small still voice saying “This is the way. Walk ye in it.” We decide to test it by taking the direction, and we find ourselves with a beautiful outcome.
Sometimes we smell. We may be troubled and at a loss for words, and we wander down a dirt lane in the summertime and smell the honeysuckle and it quickens our spirit and

brings hope to a hopeless- ness that we were stumbling over.
Sometimes we feel. This feeling can be through sens- ing a spiritual change in the atmosphere or actually feel- ing the touch of another human being that communi- cates warmth and love.
What we are doing is al- lowing our soul to connect with our spirit in these mo- ments, and the effect is ca- thartic. Our spirit says “Just breathe. Rest in the fact that you are unconditionally loved and never out of the Father’s eyesight. He knows, and He is working on your behalf be- cause He desires for you to know that He is fully present with you in every moment.”
These moments, when we allow them, build upon one another until we have estab- lished a solid foundation of trust in His care over our lives, and then we can truly know His goodness. We have given ourselves over into His hands and oversight, and peace is generated that becomes a sustaining force that cannot be taken away. As Jesus said, “MY peace. Not peace as the world gives, but my peace, that passes understanding.”
We don’t have to rational- ize or analyze at this point, because we have learned
that His peace is a spiritual force that cannot be dissem- inated by the mind. It is far above our ability to dissect, because it is a gift from Him- self that is spiritual in nature.
The beautiful thing is that although it is spiritual it is pervasive into the practical- ities of our individual lives as we deal with living in a fallen

world. It is the thing that al- lows us to be “in the world, but not of it.” It is the ethereal invading the terra firma and bringing everything into sub- jection to Himself. It is His gift to us that matures us into places where we can be not only the beholder and recip- ient, but also the conveyor to others on His behalf.
