The Bible is a book of count- less past successes and fai- lures, and the differential has been faith in God and commit- ment to His ways or willful dis- regard of Him as Lord. The story of our lives is still predicated on the same choice, and it is an in- dividual one that none of us es- cape. We get to choose, and that choice has eternal ramifica- tions whether we intend it to or not. No one gets a pass for heart hardness and bad con- duct, because mankind is one
big family that He created with desire that “none should perish.” Many among us think that they are flourishing in the things of the world, and they may ac- tually be. The Bible says sin is fun ”for a season,” but the dregs of the season will appear even- tually, and the beholder will find himself with “bags full of holes.” The only way to eternal life here and hereafter is Jesus. We get to choose, because He chose us before He formed us in our
