The only thing that is going to stand at the end of our lives, the only measurement of true life, is relationship. The quality of relationship we had with Jesus, and the quality of relationship with those around us. The Bible says that in the last days we will be known “by the way we love one another.”
In other words, lack of love is the largest indicator of need for salvation. I am not discounting those who are broken and wounded by trauma. Trauma has a way of wounding the spirit of a per- son to such a degree that they feel as if healing is not possible for them. They see people around them “doing life” on a happier, healthier level and it causes them to withdraw into themselves where they become spec- tators rather than partici- pants. These are the people who love animals and hate people (by their own confes- sion). No one “hates people” without a reason that makes sense to them personally, whether the door is opened by neglect or abuse. These are the ones among us who most need to see Jesus IN us, but often they are the hardest to communicate with, the hardest to extend love to. The Bible calls them the “unlovely.” Not because God doesn’t see them as

worthy and special, but be- cause their own perspective of self is so broken that they see themselves as unworthy, and so they “strike out” at all those that they perceive as “normal.” As my pastor likes to say,”Normal is just a set- ting on a washing machine.”
But the reality is that there are degrees of normal, just like on the washing machine. There are cold settings, hot settings, and lukewarm set- tings. The moniker of “Chris- tian” is being done a
hypocrites?” And they are RIGHT.
We are living in a season where we MUST be on fire for Jesus. We must keep the oil of intimacy burning and stay before Him in order that we may sustain our own lives and those of the lives of the people around us. The Bible talks about the ‘Great Apostasy’ of the Church, not of the world. It says that “the great love of the Body [of Christ] will grow cold.”
