RIBBON CUTTING FIRST NATIONAL BANK
Shown center cutting the ribbon is Vice President and Mortgage Officer, Marybell Hernandez, along with friends, employees, Chamber Board of Directors, Chamber Ambassadors, and community members.
The Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting for First National Bank of Moultrie’s Drive-Thru Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs). First National Bank's commitment to Moultrie dates back to June 2021 when it officially opened its doors in the heart of downtown. The new Drive-Thru ITM's, strategically positioned behind the current location at 24 1st Street Southwest, features two lanes, providing customers with seamless and efficient service. Market President of First National Bank of Moultrie, Marc DeMott, expressed the importance of investing in the community, stat- ing, "We wanted to invest in this community, and opening our new location in the heart of Moultrie was important to us. Purchasing and revitalizing the property where the old YMCA was located continued that commitment." Incorporating the latest in banking technology, the new building stands as a testa- ment to the bank's dedication to innovation. Notably, two Historical Crests from the former YMCA build- ing have been preserved and are prominently displayed one on the exterior of the new facility and the other original crest has been graciously donated to the YMCA, ensuring the preservation of Moultrie's historical legacy. As part of their ongoing commitment to our community, First National Bank introduces a unique feature in its ITMs. Customers cashing checks will now have the opportunity to donate their change to the United Way of Colquitt County. This innovative initiative allows us to give back to the community, even when the ITMs don't provide physical change. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a momentous occasion, marking the fusion of modern banking conveniences with a deep respect for
Moultrie's rich history and a commitment to the community.

TAX PLANNING TIPS
Written by Dennis W. Futch, E.A. 229-985-0176
YEAR-END TAX CUTTING MOVES TO CONSIDER
Here are moves you can make to reduce your taxable income. But the year is quickly coming to a close, so plan accordingly.
Max out pre-tax retirement sav- ings. The deadline to contribute to a 401(k) plan to get a 2023 taxable income reduction is December 31st. So if your employer's plan al- lows it, consider making a last-mi- nute lump sum contribution. For 2023, you can contribute up to $22,500 to a 401(k), plus another $7,500 if you're age 50 or older. Even better, you have until April 15, 2024, to contribute up to $6,500 into a traditional IRA. And as long as your income does not exceed phaseout limits, you can reduce your taxable income on your 2023 tax return.
Convert to a Roth IRA. Con- sider converting some or all of your traditional IRA, SEP IRA, or SIMPLE IRA into a Roth IRA. Although you pay income tax on the amount of the Roth conversion the year it is made, subsequent growth is tax- free in a Roth IRA, and withdrawals from the account are 100% tax-free after five years from the date of the conversion.
Tax loss harvesting. If you own stock outside a tax-deferred retire- ment plan, you can sell your under- performing stocks by December 31st and use these losses to re- duce any taxable capital gains. If your net capital losses exceed your
gains, you can net up to $3,000 against other income such as wages. Losses over $3,000 can be used in future years.
Selling appreciated assets. Consider selling appreciated as- sets in the tax year that helps you the most. While this strategy may be hard to accomplish this late in the year, it is still worthy of consid- eration. To do this, estimate your current year's taxable income and compare it to next year's projected income. Then sell the appreciated asset in the year that will yield the lowest tax. Remember to account for the 3.8% net investment in- come tax in your estimates.
Review health spending ac- counts. If you participate in a Health Savings Account (HSA), try to maximize your annual contrib- ution to reduce your taxable in- come. Remember, these funds allow you to pay for qualified health expenses with pre-tax dol- lars. More importantly, unlike Flex- ible Spending Accounts (FSA), you can carry over all unused funds into future years. If you do have an FSA, you can carry forward a maxi- mum of $610 from 2023 into 2024 if your plan allows this. The dead- line for contributing to your Health Savings Account (HSA) and still getting a deduction for the 2023 tax year is April 15, 2024. The max- imum contribution
for 2023 is $3,850 if single and $7,750 for married couples. If you're age 55 or older, you can add $1,000 to your HSA contrib- ution.
While the year is quickly coming to an end, there is still time to re- duce your 2023 tax liability, but only if you act now.
