God wants us to trust Him beyond our own understand- ing. That is why He says "Lean not...” When we lean toward our own cerebral abil- ity we can come up with jus- tifications, rationalizations, and subsequent choices but still find ourselves batting zero. We are called to have the mind of Christ, which translates into an ability to process circumstances and situations through the Word we have assimilated in our studies and meditation on the scriptures. Our lack of same is the watermark for failure to draw proper conclu- sions.
He says it another way - “We walk by faith and not by
sight.” Walking by faith is equivalent to trusting in what we know to be true of His character and His thoughts toward us. He says "Be- loved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” This one refer- ence alone encapsulates His over-the-top desire for us to be well - spiritually, physi- cally, emotionally, mentally, relationally, and financially. If we truly trust that He has “a plan to prosper us and not to harm us, to give us hope and a future,” then why do we waste time worrying our souls and wringing our hands? Why do we perceive that He is not truly focused on blessing us, when we have done all we know to do to position ourselves to re- ceive?
The short answer is, again, that we haven't. We have not meditated sufficiently upon His Word to know that we know that we know that He is for us and not against us. He
is committed to us individ- ually beyond any human commitment that we have ever been party to or recip- ient of. He wants us in the Word not as a religious exer- cise (a drudgery), but as a delight...a seeking out of treasure. There is no prob- lem we can experience on this earth that He didn't fore- see and make a way of es- cape from. But we don't know what we don't know, and that is why we perish in the areas of our ignorance. The ‘get to getting’ part is our responsibility, it doesn't happen by osmosis. If we neglect to spend time with Him daily in prayer and med- itation, we find that yester- day's manna has rotted and it stinks. Stinking thinking
“It is written,” we find the Door.
Rumination on less will never lead to revelation of “the More.” If we shall suc- ceed, we must heed Him - we must find the Secret Place and abide, for that is the only true shelter in the storm.
