Joe Wendell Roberts
NORMAN PARK, GA – Joe Wendell Roberts, 85, of Norman Park, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 4, 2023, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home with Rev. Marlon Daniels and Rev. Julian Griner officiating. Jon Schwalls, Dug Schwalls, Del Schwalls,
Kent Hamilton, Arlyn Roberts, Austin Hamilton, Presley Hamilton, and Justin Searcy will serve as pallbearers. Kristie Childress, Karen Conger, Rutt Conger, and Lizzie Woodard will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow at Cool Springs Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Norman Park.
Visitation will be held one hour before the service.
Born on January 2, 1938, in Colquitt County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Oran Lemuel Roberts and Marie Baker Roberts. He was a farmer and a member of Cool Springs Freewill Baptist Church in Norman Park.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Weeks; and brother, Kenny Roberts.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Carolyn Passmore Roberts of Norman Park; daughter, Shana Leigh Howell and husband Shan of Adel; stepdaughters, Leisa Stone and husband Alan of Norman Park, and Amy Cox and husband Joey of Gainesville; sisters, Wanda Hamilton-Tyler and husband Ed of Norman Park, and Valda Mathis and husband Steve of Norman Park; brother, Byron Roberts and wife Priscilla of Statesboro; grandchildren, Zac Goodno and wife Naomi of Moultrie, Hannah Goodno of Moultrie; Emily Luna and husband Jesus of Gainesville, and Elizabeth Cox of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Leif Ledferd, Joseph “Dak” Goodno, Emma Grace Leon, and Maverick Leon; and sister-in-law, Pat Roberts of Norman Park.

When the power of God meets the power of the devil there is no contest. People seem to think that God and the devil are on equal footing in some cosmic war in which we are just pawns, but that is a lie from the pit of hell.

We can participate in our own demise. What I mean by that is that when we agree with the thoughts that the devil sends our way then our emotions will follow suit. If I think “I am fearful” then my emotions will feel fearful, and then my actions will result in a fear based decision that is not God’s choice for me. I have a part to play. When fear attacks, I must answer it with the Word of faith in God. If I do not have the Word stored up in my heart then I am carrying an empty gun. Out of ammo, I am defense- less. This is why God says we must “study to show our- selves approved.” He has given us the answer to every problem we can ever have in the Bible, but if we do not read it we cannot pass these tests. We are sitting ducks for the fiery darts of the enemy, and we find our- selves defeated by a de- feated and disarmed foe.
It is time for the Body of Christ to know who she is.
We are, collectively, the Bride. As the Bride, we have access to God in the Holy of Holies. In other words, He is waiting for us to join Him in the intimacy of relationship that He offers. He antici- pates, indeed longs, for us to come to Him in quietness and simply converse. Bring Him the hurts, the pains, the joys, the hopes, the dreams of your heart. Then wait in His presence for His re- sponses. He will answer, and the answers you receive will radically change the course of your life. He loves you deeply - immeasurably - and He desires for you to live a life of abundance, overflow- ing with every good thing.
